It’s a special GPA x Foundation Center collaboration! Come meet up with fellow grant professionals as we discuss innovation in the field of proposal writing. We’re keeping it casual -  no PowerPoint in sight! Instead, we’ll chat with grant all-stars Karen Norris, Kitty Wojcik, and Maggie Holmes as they share trends in the field as well as best practices. Join fellow grant professionals for our latest Lunchtime Learning session on monitoring and evaluation presented by Alayna Buckner, CEO and founder of Elevate.
 
You know that understanding your organization's impact is essential — not only to achieve your mission, but also to communicate your work effectively. But programmatic monitoring and evaluation can be complicated. This workshop is for grant professionals who want to understand the fundamentals better. It will cover:
  • Why monitoring and evaluation is important for every nonprofit
  • What role grant professionals play in supporting M&E for their organizations
  • Essential concepts like theory of change, logic model, data collection, assessment, instrument, and qualitative/quantitative data
  • How a nonprofit gets started, or improves, their existing monitoring and evaluation
By the end of this Lunchtime Learning session, you will understand the purposes of evaluation, link it to your organization's goals, have concrete techniques to begin or improve your evaluation efforts, and earn GPC-eligible professional development points. Bring your questions...and your lunch!

 We know time is money (even more so for grantwriters!), so our first workshop of 2018 will take place within your lunch hour. In the first year of his administration, President Donald Trump signed more Executive Orders (EOs) than any president in 50 years representing major funding, political, and environmental policy changes in the United States. EOs are often proxies for larger changes and therefore can assist grant professionals in preparing for and navigating future changes. Katy Moose Hunt, Global Programs Manager at Susan G. Komen in Dallas, will review EOs from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2018 to identify several emerging trends and offer recommendations for grant professionals to adapt to these trends and changes. Katy recently published a GPA Strategy Paper on this very topic. In addition to the presentation, we’ll provide a chapter update and the opportunity to make new connections with fellow members. Bring your burning questions…and your lunch! And if you're pursuing or recertifying your GPC credential, this workshop counts toward professional development points.

We will provide an update on the upcoming regional and national conferences, welcome new members, and hear any summer grant proposal war stories! Are you often asked by funders and board leadership about the success and impact of your nonprofit programs? Do you struggle with the best methods and approaches to gather data to appropriately and accurately assess the quality and effectiveness of your programs? This session will take a deeper dive into nonprofit evaluation to determine the best systems and tools to use to collect data on your programs, when to apply them and how to engage others in the process. Let's take the mystery of the evaluation measurement so that you develop a toolkit of resources that you can use immediately after attending this session.  

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify essential evaluation tools and resources (logic models, digital surveys, observations, databases and analysis tools);
  • Know when and how to use tools appropriately and creatively;
  • And, work effectively in engaging organizational stakeholders and community members around evaluation activities.

About the Presenter:
Kevin Trimell Jones, MEd, MPH
For over 15 years, Kevin Jones has worked to build the capacity of residents, students, organizations and government stakeholders to design, implement and evaluate community-based strategies that make a profound influence on the communities that they serve. Currently serving as the Chief of Programs for the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative, Kevin is responsible for identifying and nurturing program development opportunities. He places strong emphasis on the collection and analysis of data to drive strategy. From the identification of service gaps, to the building of strategic partnerships, Kevin’s leadership ensures the quality and timely delivery of all DCPNI programs.
